JULIA NANN BARNETT
Julia Nann Barnett, 83, of Kansas City, Missouri, was born, December 2, 1937, in Kansas City, the daughter of Basil V. and Laurel W. (Wilkinson) Jones. She departed this life, Monday, August 30, 2021, at Anthology of Burlington Creek, Kansas City, surrounded with love and family.
Julia was a 1955 graduate of Pleasant Hill High School. She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Missouri at Columbia and post-graduation she attended the University of Central Missouri and finally completed her masters degree at the University of Missouri at Kansas City.
On August 1, 1969, she was united in marriage to Clarence E. “Gene” Barnett in Miami, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2019.
Julia was employed as teacher at Belton High School, then as a Psychological Examiner at The Rehab Institute in Kansas City, and later in life went back into education with the North Kansas City School district. When she was younger, she was a member of the Pleasant Hill First Christian church where she enjoyed playing the piano and singing in the church choir. Additionally, she joined the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She also enjoyed traveling, shopping, attending art fairs, and collecting artwork. She was especially fond of spending time with her grandchildren.
Julia was also preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Denise Mendon.
She is survived by two sons, Ryan Barnett of Kansas City, Missouri, and Richard (and Debbie) Barnett of St. Paul, Texas; two daughters, Nancy (and Dan) Wikel of Chicago, Illinois, and Lisa (and Tim) Hays of Kansas City, Kansas; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2021, at the funeral home.
Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2021, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Reverend D. Kent Deubner will officiate. Casket bearers are Lauren Barnett, Linden Barnett, Luke Barnett, Ryan Barnett, Ben Wikel, and Mia Wikel. Honorary casket bearers are Richard Barnett, Tim Hays, and Dan Wikel.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Parkinson’s Foundation of the Heartland and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
