Patricia Ann (O'Malley) Ruth

PATRICIA A. "PATTY" RUTH

Patricia Ann “Patty” Ruth, 75, of Greenwood, Missouri, was born, August 13, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Charles E. and Marguerite D. (Higgins) O’Malley.  She departed this life, Monday, September 30, 2019, at the Lee’s Summit Medical Center.

Patty was a 1962 St. Pius X High School graduate.

In June 1966 she was first united in marriage to Robert Gampper in Kansas City.  To this union two sons, Brett and Brad, were born. They later divorced.  On October 31, 1980, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Ruth in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. To this union he brought with him three children, William, Jr., David, and Gretchen into their family.

Patty and her siblings forged extraordinarily strong bonds as children.  Patty’s desire to be surrounded by family continued throughout her life, and especially extended to her grandchildren.  She always went above and beyond to create special memories for birthdays and other events.  Patty’s quick wit made for lively conversations, and also made her a natural at sales.  She worked with her brother at Lamcraft in Lee’s Summit for many years, where she sold laminating products.  She was a member of the St. Bridget Catholic Church where she was active with the Altar and Rosary Society and cleaning crew.   She also volunteered regularly with the Lay Clergy Food Pantry in Pleasant Hill.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting and sewing. 

Patty was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Michael Joseph O’Malley.

She is survived by her husband Bill of Pleasant Hill; five children, Brett Gampper (and Jami) of Plainsboro, New Jersey, Brad Gampper(and Gina Riekhof) of Kansas City, William “Bill” Ruth, Jr. (and Patricia) of Clarkesville, Tennessee, David Ruth of Denver, Colorado, and Gretchen Ware (and Danny) of Pleasant Hill; eight grandchildren, Derek Ruth, Cody Ruth, Emma Gampper, Hanna Gampper, Kylie Sullivan, Ella Gampper, Cameron Ware, and Alexander Gampper; step-mother, Ruby O’Malley of Lee’s Summit; two sisters, Sharon Zang (and Fred) of Kansas City and Mary Vargo (and Jan) of Santee, California; sister-in-law, Mary Jo O’Malley of Pleasant Hill; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, October 4, 2019, at the St. Bridget Catholic Church.  Reverend Curt Vogel officiated.  Private inurnment was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kansas City.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Pleasant Hill Lay Clergy Council or Catholic Charities and may be sent in care of Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home.
